I heard from my son this afternoon. They sat in the plane at JFK for 2 hours due to another plane blowing a tire. Arrived Dublin 9am their time. Traveled to tour Glendalough and then on to Newtown. Weather is cool and misty. Early bed tonite at 9p (not much sleep on the plane), breakfast at 8:30 tomorrow. Classes tomorrow at Newtown. He said it's great and the country is beautiful, but he was ready to sleep!

Thanks for the update Debbie - I figured I wouldn't hear from my son but I'm glad to know all is OK!

Glad to hear they are doing well. We tracked the flight on the JFK website until the wee hours, but have not heard from our son yet. Thanks for updates.

Heard from Ryan and he sounded great but really tired. Now we know why due to the delay at JFK and of course the length of the trip, thanks for the information. He mentioned that the food is good.

We heard from our Katie. She says everything is going great. They are on the go already with lots to do right from the start. She said there was one issue with a girl having a reaction to peanuts in the yogurt but that she was OK and was expected to rejoin them later today.

We had email and a phone call from Allyson yesterday. She said that her USA phone card would not work - but she bought an Irish phone card at the post office there. She said that the weather was great and everyone was doing well and having fun, they had a BBQ last night at dinner. She did not feel jet lagged and she sounded great!

Kara, We hope you have a great time on your trip. Your second cousin, my son Daniel, just got back from four weeks of traveling Europe with four other guys. They had a great time.

Uncle Jim - actually your grandpa Erb's brother - you father's uncle Jim

Matt called today. He said they have classes until 1p. Then, he and some friends go explore the town of Waterford (in walking distance.) Weather is cool, misty, clammy. Tonite is dance, music and drama. They're having a great time!

Katie e-mailed today. Said things were going well. There is an internet cafe next to where they are staying. Someone found a MCDonalds so many of them would be heading over there. She said the disco and BBQ were fun last night and there is a talent show tonight. The classes have been fun.

We have heard from our son a number of times. Classes til 1pm and then free time! He went into Waterford and thoroughly enjoyed the town! They said it was really interesting! The weather was cloudy but the sun came out a couple of times. Sounds like they are enjoying themselves! Our kids are very fortunate to have this wonderful experience! Thanks for all of the updates everyone has provided!

We finally heard from our sons Daniel and Thomas and they are fine. I quess it's good that they don't have time to write, seems like they're having a good time. We did ask for a bit more frequent e-mails.

Dorota - if the boys email again, ask them to tell Burke to email too!
Thanks,
Marge

We heard from our son today. They did a "field trip" to some castles today....no classes. One was Kilkenny Castle I believe...not sure though. He commented on the beautiful countryside. He also said that the sun was shining today! He couldn't talk long though, because it was 11:30pm their time, and the curfew is at 11:45pm (Lights out!)....

It sounds as though the kids have had an exciting first week. Michael wrote long emails the first free day, but we haven't heard a word since. We take that as a good sign... too many friends to make and things to do. Thanks to everyone here for filling in the blanks for us.

I got an email from Juliana on Wednesday saying everything was totally wonderful, and have heard nothing since. I agree that this is a great sign - too much fun stuff going on to feel lonely for home!

Thanks for the posts - I'm glad to hear the little bits of news from everybody's kids. What an amazing time for them all! (Not to mention for us. I don't know who else might be experiencing an empty nest, but it's a new thing for me. I'm actually really enjoying it, and enjoying the knowledge that Juliana's having a blast and growing up and all that...and I'll sure be glad to see her at the airport!)

I heard from my son Burke. He said they are having a great time, keeping busy playing a game with a rugby ball. Also visiting castles and going to the beach tomorrow. Sounds like a tough life right? He also said he is meeting some really cool people. Overall, it sounds like they're having a wonderful experience!

Everyone is doing great. I absolutely love all of your children and it's only just begun. It is truly the best group of high school students I have ever worked with! Thank you! They were in classes today, some took a scone workshop, while others went on a Waterford walking tour. They have a few more hours before lights out, so some of them are watching Braveheart and ordering pizza. We are off to the Waterford Crystal Factory tomorrow and to a wonderful beach-hopefully we will have some good weather.

Don't be worried if your children aren't writing much. We truly are on the go all the time and they all seem to be having a blast.

Stay posted for more updates:)

We love the pictures and the daily updates from Taryn and the rest of the group. Thank you!!!
It is so nice to have a sense of the cultural immersion and get an inside look at their daily activities. We spoke to Andrea briefly and she said she was having a great time. We can't wait to see what is next:)
